Haciendas Tours

This is a fascinating cultural tour around the highlights of Ecuador. In this tour you will visit Andean markets, Indian villages, private rose plantations, natural reserves, national parks, etc. You stay in the most beautiful colonial haciendas; restored Spanish style houses with hundreds of years of history offering first class and luxury accommodation all over Ecuador and performing many activities like horseback ridding, hiking and exploring the Andean culture. IMBABURA PROVINCE

Day1: 90 km north of Quito we have the most interesting and biggest Indian market in South America. En route we visit Calderon, well known for the manufacture of bread-dough figurines, and then continue northwards through dry Andean valleys until we reach Otavalo, where we can see the Ecuadorian indians trading and selling their handicrafts.

After lunch at "La Mirage" we go to Cotacachi, a small town which is famous for the manufacture of leather goods before visiting the Cuicocha Ecological Reserve.

OTAVALO

Day 2: Today we visit some of the most important Indian villages around Otavalo where we can see our Indians living in the countryside the way they did centuries ago. We will witness our Indians operating back-strap as well as Spanish looms, making wall hangings, sweaters, scarves, etc.

We will also see how they make their typical musical instruments before they play some of the Andean instruments and perform music for us. We have lunch at Hacienda Pinsaqui and in the afternoon we visit San Antonio de Ibarra, known for its woodcarving.

COTOPAXI

In the morning we give you some time to enjoy the wonderful gardens of the Hacienda before we head off towards the Cotopaxi province. En route will stop at the beautiful Hacienda Alegria. Here we will enjoy a delicious lunch, followed by a great horseback ride!

The Hacienda is surrounded by the beauty of the Andes, which are great to explore on horseback. The tour will take you to see some of the farm land close to the Hacienda, and to spots with great views of the surrounding volcanoes.

RETURN TO QUITO

Day 4: After a relaxed evening in La Cienega, you will be collected in the morning to visit "The Cotopaxi National Park".

There you will discover the flora and fauna of the paramo and enjoy the beautiful countryside of the Andes.

After lunch at Tambopaxi we will return to Quito.
